In my last few days in Auckland, and having been put in contact with Scott Gilmour and hearing of his I have a dream programme, I was reminded of a café which I passed early in my stay. Outside this establishment are chalkboards for customers and passersby to record their own dreams…
This cafe appears to be heavily influenced by the recent work of Candy Chang, a native of New Orleans in the US. Candy originally set up similar boards on a derelict building in her home town and following their enthusiastic reception has led to this project being duplicated across the world.
‘In our age of increasing distractions, it’s more important than ever to maintain perspective and remember that life is brief and tender… thinking about death clarifies your life’
You can hear more on her project here:
Scott Gilmour, Candy Chang and this Auckland café are not the only people to recognise the power of dreams. In the business world, Honda, the Japanese car company, have built an entire marketing approach around it.
