Prior to departing for New Zealand I spoke with a friend about the country’s culture and what to expect. In many ways, similar to Australia, there is a very laid back culture where good things are ‘sweet as’, and ‘Bro’ simply replaces ‘mate’.
The other phrase that threw me was ‘true’ meaning ‘yes’ – as in;
‘I’m going to the cinema tonight.’
‘Really Bro? True!’
My friend shared with me the popular link below which, perhaps best describes some of these laid-back stereotypes (whether they be completely true or false of course) as well as other words said in a definite kiwi accent.
