When you ask Melbournians how they spend their time, there is always one constant response.
They love their cafes here; the coffee that goes with it, and the culture that surrounds it. On a weekend it is commonplace to see people queuing out on the street for half an hour before even getting a table – its part of the whole experience; especially if it ‘the’ café to be visiting.
Similarly, the cafes appear fiercely independent places with high quality food being an essential component. Yes, I saw a couple of chain places during my stay, but nothing compared to the concentration of them on a typical UK high street.
In one Melbourne café I chatted with a local waitress about life in Melbourne and her thoughts on the ambition question.
