Should we even be setting targets at all?

Meeting people and speaking to them about their ambitions has made me curious about whether we should in fact be setting targets at all, and also the implications of any target when we choose to do so.

A little while back, two popular bloggers and authors from the US, Leo Babauta and Tim Ferris, filmed a discussion they held on exactly that topic. Leo writes the popular blog Zenhabits about living a healthy and contented life and is against setting goals; Tim is the acclaimed author of the 4 Hour Workweek who many would argue takes a very focused approach to his own self-development. Despite these different viewpoints it was interesting to see where they did agree.
